Windows 10 is in the market since more than a year. The new Operating System was unveiled on September 30, 2014. Before its release, speculations were looming around Windows 9 but Microsoft did it differently and instead brought out Windows 10. The company called it the Future of Windows. In later part of 2015 its made available for free in 190 countries across world.

If you are Windows user running version 7 or 8, perhaps you will be interested in getting Windows 10 in your PC or Laptop. Upgrade requirements are simple and you need only few easy steps to take. However, having a guide nearby is always best choice while doing a new core. Here I will explain complete transition process from Windows 7/8 to Windows 10.

Mandatory Requirements for Transition From Windows 7/8 to Windows 10

An Activated Copy of Windows

Microsoft said more often, transition to Windows 10 from any previous version shall require no expertise. It’s true also. But in the computing Murphy’s Law holds true- ‘If some may go wrong it will go wrong’.  You need an Activated Copy of Windows. Below is how to check if your’s is properly activated.

How to check if Windows 8 is properly activated in your PC or Laptop?

Press Windows Key+W to get the Setting search and type in “activated”. Find if Windows is activated. Alternatively, Go to Control Panel >>> System and view the status.

How to check if Windows 7 is properly activated in your PC or Laptop?

Click Start Button then Right Click on Computer and then Select Properties. In resulting step you can see if Windows is properly activated in your machine.

Know your System Type

If it is a 32 bit system or 64 bit system. You can see in the same panel following same steps as you did above.

Please note you can’t upgrade from 32 bit system to 64 bit system even if hardware supports it. In otherwise condition you can not enjoy sweeping upgrade but require a Clean Install. Here is download tool. Please choose the correct version a 32 bit or 64 bit.

In next step the robot will prompt you to upgrade the PC or create installation media for another PC. Select option “Upgrade this PC now. The download process will begin in moments. However, depending on your connection speed it will take short or long time. For me it took nearly 20-25 minutes over a DSL Cable broadband.
As soon download and unpacking process done “Accept” license terms, the installer will perform a final update check before taking you to final confirmation page.

Check corresponding Radio Button for what you want to keep and what not. I recommend to “Keep Personal Files and Apps” and then click Next. During the installation process your machine will reboot many times, hold patience. As soon installation process completes you will be prompted to Log In screen.

Now it’s time to configure your Windows machine according to requirements. You can customize it and can make changes in customization settings anytime thereafter.

Configure Windows 10 After Upgrade

Configuration is mandatory as soon Log In screen appears after the upgrade.

Chose for Express Setting or Customize Setting. We recommend to Click Express Setting to those who are either novice or use PC for very basic needs. Else chose for Customize Setting option, the tiny link at Bottom Left corner as shown in screen.

Make you selection and proceed to next step Following screen will pop up

This step is focused on browser protection, hotspots, and error reporting. Click Let me choose my default apps, make your choice and click next.
